Nathan Eovaldi about to return to the game with the Red Sox

BALTIMORE - Nathan Eovaldi is set to regain his spot on the Boston Red Sox pitcher after a three-month absence due to an elbow injury.

The right-hander completed his final test on Thursday, scoring three strikeouts in a round of work with Pawtucket, the Red Sox school club at the AAA level.

Barring a sudden setback, Eovaldi's name should be removed from the 60-day-injured list on Saturday in Baltimore.

Hired as a free agent in December, Eovaldi made four starts with the Red Sox before ending up on the injured list on April 20th.

The 29-year-old gunner experienced Tommy-John type operations in 2007 and 2016, and the Red Sox expect to be wise in his workload.

According to manager Joey Cora, Eovaldi will be used "in situations of great importance", possibly as a stopper.
